Army of the Week: Marines

KLONDIKE, CPO Army League Headquarters – Today we bring to you the first edition of ‘Army of the Week’ on the CPOAL Website. The Army of the Week tradition traces back to the early stages of Club Penguin Armies. Our edition of ‘Army of the Week’ will spotlight an army that either made big jump in the top ten or is a new army that started off big. Our first Army of the Week is the Marines!

Marines are an army imbued with a deep history. The army was the 5th army that was ever founded and its origins trace back to 2006. The original Marines of Club Penguin were founded on November 20th 2006 by Sf1998 and were an army that rivaled the ACP and Romans at that time. The army quickly became allies with the ACP, and until the Marine’s death, fought with ACP until the end. The Marines eventually died in middle 2007. Records show that the creator, Sf1998 had not even made a retirement post or announced that the army had ended.

Marines Event back in 2006

From June 10th 2007 to February 2014, there had been many failed armies by the names of “Marines.” However, none were that significant, and none are remembered. In early February 2014, two friends named Sidie9 and Rexeh/Agentrds attempted to revive the fallen empire. Once again, the army deceased. Soon after, Rexeh and Sidie started talking about restarting the army again. They both went ahead with the plan and resurrected the army in December. Two leaders (Apollo and Totidile/Revan) were introduced and the army saw the light of day once more. The generation faded away as motivation was lost and there were leadership issues within the army.

The revived Marines of 2014

The recent revival of Marines took place after Epic101 suggested The Justice of CPO and Fish Warriors of CPO to come together and form the Justice Warriors. Justice Leader Clifford and Fish Warriors Leader Fish were not extremely attracted to the name Justice Warriors, so Fish and Clifford decided to revive the Marines of CPO instead. Working under the advice of Epic101, Sidie9 and Gingersnap, the Marines managed to max 33 penguins in their very first event.

Marines debut event where they maxed 33

As DCP were allied to the Fish Warriors, several Doritos joined in the Marines in their events. However when this DCP support was retracted under the orders of DCP Leader, 32op, the Marines went down to maxing 27. What followed was several misunderstandings between the leadership of the Marines, creators Clifford and Fish were demoted to Leader in Training and Second in Command respectively. Working alongside their advisors the Marines managed to straighten things before it spiralled out of hand.

Things began to change for the Marines, as Marines Legend, Buddy, returned to Leadership. Under the leadership of Clifford, Fish, Ben, Zarpa and Buddy, the Marines went on recruiting spree, having recruited over 300 members in just 2 days, the Marines had now become a force to watch out for. Soon thereafter, the Marines managed to max 54 in their next event, and they even managed to follow through with a 50 max in the event thereafter.

Marines at its peak with a 54 max

Following their sharp increase in their maxes, the Marines went from ranking 6th in the SM Armies rankings list, to ranking 10th in the recent edition of the Universal Top 10 rankings list for Major Armies.

Marines in the top 10

Truly an impressive story for the revival of the Marines, let’s what their secret to success is as we interview their Leader, Clifford.

Interview with Marines Leader, Clifford

CPOAL: First off congratulations on making it into the top 10, did you except yourself to be in the top 10 at such an early stage of the army’s revival?

Cliff: To be honest, yeah because we made a great team of leaders, and revived a legendary army. When we got a 33 max at the debut of the new gen of marines, I already knew we could make it up to major.

CPOAL: So what would you say is the secret to your success?

Cliff: The effort we made into marines, and how much we recruited. Epic also was a great help.

CPOAL: The army seems to be growing rapidly at this stage, so what would you say are your goals in the coming days?

Cliff: Goal is to become a major army, and rival the sizes of swat and golds

CPOAL: Your sizes did hit 50+, but soon thereafter your maxes have fallen to around 30 members, is that a concerning figure?

Cliff: Nope, we will get back up we gave our troops around 5 events last week. Also some people only attended 1 event for coins

CPOAL: Wait, so you mean to say that your maxes depend on whether an event gives out coins or not?

Cliff: Apparently so, because a lot of our members are coin hungry for now. (sorry marines xD I still love yall)

CPOAL: Alright well, I wish you luck in your future endeavors, is there anything else you’d like to say to the community?

Cliff: Marines are in a secret alliance that might become public, stay tuned for that

Well, that was an interesting interview. While the Marines do show promise, there’s definitely some chinks in their armor. As Cliff rightly stated, the Marines maxes begin to fall once their quota of coin events run out, which is definitely a concerning issue, that the Marines need to resolve. The Marines have also hinted at a secret alliance, so what does the future hold for the Marines?
