Ben and Buddy Step Down From Marines

BERG, Marines Capital – Recently, the Marines of CPO have been on a rise and even stepping into the “major” status in the Club Penguin Online Army League armies list. This makes it all the more surprising to find that two of the Marines’ leaders, Ben and Buddy, have stepped down from their leadership. Read on to find out everything there is to know about the Marines’ leadership changes.

Created all the way back in autumn of 2006 by SF1998, the Marines have had their ups and downs. The army was the 5th army ever created, and were brother allies with the original Army of Club Penguin all those years ago. During the World Wars, SF and Oagalthorp fought side by side to battle armies such as the Underground Mafias Army. The Marines grew to the same heights as the Army of Club Penguin under SF1998, although it was later shut down with SF1998 not even issuing a “closing down” or retirement post. However, the army’s legacy has been preserved and can be viewed here.

Much of the army’s history from 2007 – 2014 is either gone, or too difficult to locate. However, the army had not reached the same glory that it had reached during 2006. In mid-2014, the army was brought back under Sidie9 and Rexeh, although it eventually died again. The generation after this, however, would be the best one the army has seen in over 7 years.

The new generation was led by Totidile / Revan, who had led the army in the failed 2014 generation. He had asked Sidie if he could recreate the Marines. After being given permission, Tot went on to help Marines grow into their greatest heights since 2007.

In this same week, the Marines placed 7th on Club Penguin Army Central’s Top Ten!

There’s not much else to say about the Marines’ run on the original Club Penguin. They rose, they fell, they almost rose again, but then fell again. It’s unfortunate, but that’s what happens to armies that don’t have dedicated leaderships.

Marines Return on Club Penguin Online

Former Marines leader, Epic101, had the idea to bring back Marines under the very successful Club Penguin Online: Army League towards the very end of December of 2019. There were many posts written on the website that continued to hint at a possible return. After months of this hinting, the Marines eventually saw the light of day on the 1st of April, 2020.

Clifford, leader of Justice of CPO, as well as Gingersnap and Fish, both leaders of Fish Warriors, had talks about a merger. Epic101 heard about this, and offered the two armies the Marines’ website with the three leading. As their return event in early April 2020, the Marines immediately go on to take the Redemption Force! Yes – the Marines took on a major army even though they were a combination of two SM armies. Miraculously, they beat them 2-0-1 in an intense battle that resulted in Marines maxing 30!

Against all odds, the Marines took Redemption Force for a great battle, and in the end:

Evidently, the trio leadership was beyond successful. After only 2 days of building, the Marines went ahead and topped just about every Small Medium army, and looked good doing it.

Recently, however, the Marines have had a few leadership changes. A few weeks ago, Marines had hired Buddy, Ben, and Zarpa to help lead the Marines. Then suddenly, Ben and Buddy have both decided to retire, with two posts placed on the Marines website regarding their retirements. Buddy wrote his own post, with Zarpa writing one for Ben. Below is an excerpt of Zarpa’s post on the Ben situation:

Only a few days later Ben started becoming inactive when questioned he told us that he was busy with some developing which was perfectly fine. Then a few hours before our practice battle with Golds Ben decided he didn’t want to be in the Marines anymore due to an issue with rankings. Ben left our discord and join another army which we haven’t got a problem with and we wish Ben the best of luck on his new journey and hold no bad feelings toward him or his army.

(full post can be found here)

As we can see from the above excerpt, the reason why Ben left can be chopped up to a little bit of inactivity, and just plain and simply not wanting to be in Marines anymore – which can happen to the best of us. Under Ben’s leadership, the Marines saw it’s highest size in over 12 years – 54+ and invaded what was left of the Crimson Guardian’s nation.

Buddy, another Marine leader, has also retired. In his retirement post, Buddy outlined that he retired to bring back Water Vikings. An excerpt can be found below:

Lately, plenty of Water Viking vets have planned a return to the CPA community and naturally, I will be joining them. It may have been predictable to some but I made so many friends whom I consider family and I feel at home with them.

Marines legend, Buddy, has explained that he loves Marines, they’re his new family, but he was joining Water Vikings. One can only hope he does well with his new army.

I wanted to interview Buddy about his time in Marines, find out more about his retirement and look for any tips for aspiring Army Leaders. Below, you can find this interview:

Interview with Former Marines Leader Buddy

CPO:AL: how would you describe your time in Marines?

Buddy: Whether it was 2015, or this past generation, I’ve always loved the Marines. I was always surrounded by an amazing leadership group and it felt more like a family than an army. I gained so much experience being in the Marines back in 2015 and re-joining to lead again made me feel like my career came full circle.

CPO:AL: how do you think the Marines will do without you?

Buddy: They have an amazing group of people leading the army. Cliff has done a wonderful job in reviving this Marines gen and keeping them afloat. Zarpa is a very recruit-heavy leader who has good relationships with the troops and Fish is a young, talented leader with an amazing amount of potential. With this excellent leadership combo and the support of the “Godfathers”, the Marines will continue to rise.

CPO:AL: is there any Marines leader you think people should keep their eye on?

Buddy: It’s so hard to select just one…I’d like to say all of them as a trio! However, seeing as Zarpa is already well known throughout the community and Fish is a new leader, I’d say Cliff is a leader who everyone should keep their eyes on. He can bring this Marines army to the top, and I believe that.

CPO:AL: Thank you for the interview! Is there any final comments you’d like to give to CPO:AL readers?

Buddy: The Panel of Godfathers & former Marine vets (Who I am in contact with) will not hesitate to rejoin and temp-lead the army again in the event that an army decides to declare war. Thank you for the interview!

~

In my professional opinion, I don’t think the retirement of Buddy and Ben will affect too much – the Marines have a solid foundation now to build upon and with Buddy, Marines legend, ready to step in at any time? I truly believe this army will be one to look out for, from minor to major, this army has everything to prove and so far they’re doing just that!

That’s it! From the Marines creation in 2007 to Buddy and Ben stepping down, that’s everything there is to know about the Marines right now. Thank you for reading!
