Army of the Week: Skaters

BRUMBY, Skaters Capital: Today we bring to you the third edition of “Army of the Week” on the CPOAL Website. Skaters recently made the headlines following their sudden merger with the Sinners. Skaters continued to surprise the community following their recent induction to the list of Major Armies.

A relatively new army, the genesis of the Skaters trace back to another army called the ‘Wolves of CPO’. Former Aliens member, Yetry, decided to create his own army namely the Wolves of CPO. However it couldn’t sustain itself for much longer due to administration problems. Following continued encouragement from Spin and Rowlett; Yetry decided to create the Skaters of CPO on the 27th of January 2020.  Skaters had a relatively humble beginning as they maxed 5 in their first event ever as an official army.

First Skaters Event

Working under the leadership of Yetry and Spin, Skaters decided to join the now disbanded, International United Armies. Working alongside the IUA, Skaters went on to max 10+ on a regular basis. It was at this juncture however, that Yetry decided to leave the army. The army was then led by Spin alone for a couple of weeks and it was decided that the Skaters would now ally with the Sinners. The spark in maxes for the Skaters however brought Yetry back for another stint at the army as Leader. The Skaters soon became a contender to other S/M Armies in the Top Ten. Having achieved 15+ sizes, Yetry decided to retire one last time on the 14th of April 2020.

Skaters were now led by Spin, Averil and Elisha. Under their Leadership Skaters continued to grow their numbers, often hitting maxes of 20. So how did this once S/M Army change their fortunes in a week?

On the 3rd of May 2020, Skaters and Sinners came to an agreement wherein it was decided that the Sinners would now merge into the Skaters. More information about this merger can be found here:

The entry of the Sinners proved to be a major numbers booster for the Skaters. Overnight, the Skaters went up from maxing 20 to maxing 40+ on a regular basis. This week saw the entry of the Skaters into the Top Ten as well as they managed to secure the tenth position in the list.

Skaters maxing 45+

Let’s hear what the Leader, Spin, has to say about their sudden change of fortunes:

CPOAL: First off congratulations on becoming a Major Army, did you expect this at all?

Spin: Thank you! We did expect our merge to help us grow as an army, and make our way towards being a major army, but not this soon.

CPOAL: Several doubts were raised over how the merger was a closed door discussion which even most Skaters Leaders were unaware off, do you think that this issue might hamper the army’s progress in the long run?

Spin: First of all, the merge was discussed between all leaders of both armies. We decided to merge only after we got the consent of everyone, as this was a decision that would involve all of us. We have moved on about that issue, and now everything is running as it should.

CPOAL: Well what would you say would be your goals moving forward?

Spin: We plan to continue growing as an army, maxing more with each event so that we can keep up with the expectations of becoming a major army.

CPOAL: Well considering how almost all of your events are AUSIA, how do you plan on building out your other branches, it’s noticeable how most of your numbers come from AUSIA events.

Spin: As AUSIA is our most dominant Timezone, it will be a challenge for us to build on other branches, however, we do plan on making a change about this. First of all we will see how strong we are in other time zones based on an event. We have no doubt that as we grow we will be able to do well on all time zones, and that is what we plan on doing.

CPOAL: Well, I wish you luck in your future endeavors, is there anything else you’d like to say to the community?

Spin: Thank you! There’s nothing else I would like to add.

While the newly merged Skaters Army have definitely shown great promise, there’s still so much more that the Army has to prove. Working solely along the lines of the AUSIA Division might prove to be inefficient in the long run as their US and Europe divisions are in immediate need of a revival. While Spin has definitely addressed this in her interview, the question still remains, ‘Will Skaters be able to carry on solely with just one strong division?’
